Dust from Africa Shrouds Northern Cyprus Until the End of the Week
The TRNC Meteorology Department has issued an urgent warning due to dust pollution. Fine particles from North Africa have once again reached the region and will remain in the atmosphere until the end of the week.
According to meteorologists, the new “dust warning” will be in effect from 12:00 PM today, June 12, until noon on Sunday, June 16.
“Since dust particles from North Africa are expected to cause air pollution in our region, citizens who are sensitive to dust are advised to be cautious,” the department stated.
Additionally, starting tomorrow, the TRNC will also be under a heatwave warning.
Extremely high temperatures have persisted in Northern Cyprus for the second week. Several temperature records have been broken. Due to the excessive heat, a three-day ban on working under the sun was implemented in the TRNC, along with a special hotline to report violators.
Additionally, due to the hot weather last week in TRNC, several major forest fires occurred. The most serious incidents happened near the Injirli Cave, as well asbetween the villages of Tatlısu and Mersinlik. The total damage caused by the fires over the week amounted to 4 million 563 thousand 750 Turkish lira.
