Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman stated that he does not expect a new comprehensive peace plan for the Cyprus issue to emerge, emphasizing the need to focus on practical measures and achieving progress in the coming months.

In an interview with SIM TV, he noted that the active involvement of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, despite his mandate ending in December, opens a window for intensified diplomatic efforts. According to Erhürman, a new wave of negotiating activity is expected starting in July, which could last about five months.

"There are no expectations for a plan similar to the Annan Plan to emerge. It is important to achieve concrete results on issues that can be resolved right now," he stated.

He identified the opening of new crossing points as one of the key areas. According to him, discussions on four such points have already taken place with UN participation, and reaching agreements is possible. He paid special attention to the need to relieve congestion at the Agios Dometios crossing, as well as the route between Athienou and Aglantzia, which he believes is important for both communities.

Erhürman also stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side is ready for constructive dialogue; however, he claimed that the proposed solutions are not finding a response from the Greek Cypriot side.

Speaking about the settlement model, he reiterated political equality as a key element. "Without it, Turkish Cypriots will find themselves in the position of a minority," he noted, adding that a rotating presidency must be part of a future agreement.

At the same time, he called for avoiding exaggerated expectations, emphasizing that progress is only possible with concrete steps and mutual readiness for compromise.
