Nicosia Turkish Municipality welcomed new ŞÖDAM teams for training
Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) on April 3, 2026, welcomed working groups from the newly established Violence Prevention and Counseling Centers (ŞÖDAM) at the Nicosia Solidarity and Training Center. The meeting was organized for orientation and professional training purposes.
The event was attended by ŞÖDAM teams from Famagusta, Girne, Değirmenlik–Akıncılar, Çatalköy–Esentepe, Lefke, Dikmen, and Mesarya. According to LTB, the training was conducted by LTB Women's Shelter coordinator Ömür Yılmaz and Head of Social Services Sibel Taçay Demirpençe; the Women's Shelter working group also joined to share practical experience.
The program included principles of feminist and human rights work, application methods, risk assessment, development of safety plans, and key aspects of case management. The report highlights that the LTB Women's Shelter, as the only public institution specializing in the protection and support of victims, has been providing services throughout Northern Cyprus without discrimination since November 2016.
Organizers noted that the establishment of ŞÖDAM within municipal structures under the TOCED law is a significant step in strengthening anti-violence measures. An agreement was reached to hold further, more detailed case reviews and follow-up meetings to increase the efficiency of the new centers.
