International Women's Day Celebrations in Northern Cyprus: Full Program Released

International Women's Day will be celebrated across Northern Cyprus on March 8, with events kicking off today and continuing throughout the country.

March 7:

  • 13:00 – Seminar and theatrical workshop titled “Household Labor and Beyond,” organized by HAKSEN and the Women's Education Collective.
  • 15:30 – Women from the Famagusta Cultural Association and the Clotho Organization will host a joint event at a garage on Famagusta Avenue in Derinya, supported by the Social Struggle Platform.
  • Morning – Panel discussion on “Women in Design, Education, and Technology” at the Department of Architecture, EMU. Moderator: Professor Ayşen Savaş (METU).
  • 17:00 – Panel discussion titled “Teachers and Politicians: The Fight for Equality and Against Discrimination,” organized by DAÜ-SEN and the Cyprus Turkish Teachers Union (KTÖS) in Nicosia.
  • 18:00 – Opening of the art exhibition “Here I Am” at Nicosia Eaves House.
  • 19:00 – Opening of the photo exhibition “Voices of Women” at Bandabulya (Famagusta), organized by TOVAD.
  • 20:00 – Free concert by the TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Congress Center (Famagusta).

March 8:

  • 10:30 – The Turkish Cypriot Women's Association will lay a wreath at the Atatürk statue in Nicosia.
  • 11:00 – Opening of the photo exhibition “Our Women Who Left Their Mark” at the M. Necati Özkan Exhibition Hall (Nicosia Arts Center). Organized by the Yıltaş Taşçı Academy.
  • 14:00 – Book reading at Desdemona Park, organized by the Famagusta Cultural Association.
  • 15:30 – “Solidarity March for International Women's Workers' Day” at Famagusta-Sulu Square. A concert by Grup Detay will follow at 17:00 in Bandabulya.
  • 15:00 – March 8 Committee event at Kumsal Park (Nicosia) under the slogan “Fighting Against Exploitation, With Hope for Peace.”

2025 International Women's Day Theme:

UN Women has announced the theme for March 8, 2025, as "For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment." This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action—a key document for protecting women's rights, signed by 189 governments in 1995.
