Employees of the TRNC Telecommunications Department announced a warning strike
The unions representing employees of the TRNC Telecommunications Department are holding a warning strike in Northern Cyprus due to ambiguities surrounding the fiber-optic infrastructure protocol.
The TRNC Telecommunications Department Workers' Union (Tel-Sen), together with unions affiliated with the TRNC Federation of Unions (Türk-Sen), conducted the action from 08:00 to 12:00. The TRNC Civil Servants' Union (KTAMS) joined the strike from 08:00 to 15:30. The Confederations Hür-İş and Kamu-İş expressed support.
Representatives of Tel-Sen held a meeting with the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, around 10:00. At the same time, workers, unions, and supporting organizations gathered in front of the ministry building and displayed banners; the Internet Providers Association also displayed its banner.
Following an approximately half-hour meeting, Tel-Sen President Hakan Yüredi stated that Arıklı requested 3–4 days to continue negotiations and that a working committee will be established for the fiber-optic project. Yüredi noted that if there is no response, union actions will be intensified.
Türk-Sen General President Arslan Bıçaklı emphasized that project materials should be accessible to employees and legally reviewed before signing any protocols; he highlighted the right to further actions and court appeals to protect workers' rights.
