Sıla Usar İncirli calls for police withdrawal from parliament walls
In Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, on April 7, 2026, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Sıla Usar İncirli demanded from the parliamentary rostrum the withdrawal of police stationed in front of the building, holding the government responsible for the pressure and tension.
İncirli harshly criticized the executive branch, noting that society is being divided and "brother is being set against brother." According to her, the current situation in front of the parliament building hinders dialogue and prevents achieving public consensus.
The politician directly outlined a sequence of actions: the first step is to withdraw the police from the protest site; the second is to revoke the decree having the force of law; and the third is to return the bills to the relevant committees for discussion. She emphasized that without these steps, achieving "absolute consensus" is impossible and the risk of further escalation remains high.
For residents: given the ongoing tension and the presence of law enforcement at the parliament building, it is recommended to refrain from visiting the surrounding areas if possible and to follow official government announcements regarding the development of the situation.
