Teachers go on protest: strikes sweep through schools
The KTOEÖS union has announced a partial strike and protest actions in schools in the Iskele, Karpas, and Gazimağusa regions. The actions are scheduled for the afternoon and will affect educational institutions in the specified areas.
According to the head of the union, Ahmet Karaoğulları, the decision was made after consultations with school representatives. The main reason for the protest was disagreement with the Ministry of Education's policy promoting a full-day school system, which the union considers ineffective and difficult to implement.
This is not the first wave of protests: similar actions previously took place in the Lefke and Güzelyurt regions. Teachers state they intend to continue the pressure, seeking improved working conditions and a revision of educational policy.
The union's statement emphasizes that the protests are aimed at protecting the rights of education workers, as well as preserving the quality of teaching. Participants demand the implementation of a more sustainable and modern education model that meets the needs of schools and students.
