Atatürk Run to Take Place Across Northern Cyprus on Friday
The traditional annual Atatürk Road Race will take place across Northern Cyprus on Friday, December 27. The 8-kilometer race will kick off in Lefkoşa at 8:00 AM, starting at the Hamitköy roundabout.
Participants can collect their race numbers at the Atatürk Stadium on the day of the event, between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM. Special shuttle buses will transport runners to the starting line.
The race is open to men and women, with competitors divided into five age groups: 18–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and 60 and above.
Registration closes at 5:00 PM today and can be completed through the TRNC Athletics Federation’s Facebook page. The awards ceremony for the winners will be held at the Atatürk Stadium on Friday at 9:30 AM.
In Güzelyurt, the ceremony will begin at 9:30 AM in front of the Atatürk Monument. Following the wreath-laying ceremony, flags will be raised, and the national anthem will be performed. Athletes will then be transported to their designated starting points via municipal buses.
The races in Güzelyurt will include events for children of different age groups. Award ceremonies will take place in front of the Güzelyurt Museum of Archaeology and Nature after the conclusion of each category’s race.
In İskele, the event will begin at 9:00 AM with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk bust in Ecevit Square. Athletes will be taken to the starting line by shuttle buses. The awards ceremony will be held either at the Atatürk Cultural Center or Ecevit Square.
In Lefke, the ceremony will start at 9:30 AM with a wreath-laying in front of the Lefke District Governor’s Office. Children’s races will also be organized in various age groups, followed by an awards ceremony in front of the Governor’s Office building once the races are completed.
