A Cypriot citizen died in a car accident in England
In England, a 62-year-old Cypriot citizen, Haralambos Nicolaou, died as a result of a road accident. The tragedy occurred on Christmas Eve in front of his 17-year-old daughter.
The accident happened near Stoke-on-Trent in central England. Around 21:00 local time, a speeding car collided with the Cypriot's vehicle.
The 62-year-old man succumbed to his injuries before the arrival of the ambulance. Two of his relatives who were in the car suffered serious injuries. Staffordshire Police reported that the victims are in stable condition and are receiving medical assistance.
It is known that the deceased man was visiting relatives in the UK with his 17-year-old daughter, exploring housing options and universities for her education.
Authorities arrested 27-year-old Mark Plimmer, identified as the driver of the speeding car. He faces several charges in court: dangerous driving resulting in death, leaving the scene of the incident, driving without proper insurance, driving without a license, failure to provide a sample for analysis, and two counts of causing serious injury.
The suspect is in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Stoke court at the end of January.
The family of the deceased Cypriot has approached the diplomatic authorities of Cyprus in the United Kingdom to facilitate the repatriation of his body.
