A group of students from Cyprus, along with their teachers, are stranded in Switzerland due to severe weather conditions. They are safe, and measures are being taken for their return.

According to local media reports, a group of 65 fourth-year students, accompanied by six teachers from an English school, are in Switzerland for an educational trip. They became trapped during a trip near the southern border with Italy when heavy rains triggered landslides and prolonged power outages.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus has confirmed that all Cypriot students and their teachers are currently staying in a hotel, and their lives and health are not at risk. However, due to ongoing bad weather, they are unable to return home.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in direct contact with the Embassy of Cyprus in Rome, which is accredited to Switzerland, as well as with all relevant parties. It has been reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos, is personally coordinating with authorities and communicating with the parents of the students.

Education Minister Athena Michaelidou is also in constant communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding this matter. Authorities are taking all necessary measures to facilitate the safe return of the student group to Cyprus.

It should be noted that heavy rains hit the southwestern part of Switzerland over the past weekend, causing flooding and landslides. Four people have died, and two others are missing. Over 600 people have been evacuated to temporary shelters.
