Retail trade in Cyprus is growing: Turnover increased by almost 8% in March
In March 2026, the retail trade sector in Cyprus demonstrated steady growth, according to data from the Statistical Service. The turnover value index increased by 7.8% compared to the same month last year, while the sales volume index rose by 5.8%.
The most significant growth was recorded in the segment of equipment for information and communication systems — by 35.3%. A notable increase was also observed in the category of household equipment, including construction materials, furniture, and electrical appliances (+12.8%). Sales of motor fuel and goods for education and recreation grew by 9.8%, while pharmaceutical products and cosmetics increased by 8.4%.
At the same time, a number of categories showed a decline. The most noticeable decrease was recorded in the segment of flowers, jewelry, and second-hand goods (-9.7%). Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco in specialized stores also decreased (-4.9%), and the turnover of clothing and footwear fell by 0.8%.
Overall, for the first quarter of 2026, the retail sector maintains positive dynamics: the value index rose by 6.6%, and sales volume by 6.4% compared to the same period in 2025.
