The Municipality of Larnaca and the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) have signed an agreement to build the School of Marine Sciences, Technology and Sustainable Development in the Mackenzie area. The city's mayor, Andreas Vyras, called the day "historic for Larnaca."

The signing ceremony took place on Friday morning at the Larnaca Municipal Gallery in the presence of Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanoli, MPs, and representatives of city organizations.

According to the mayor, the creation of the new school will be an important step for the city's development and an investment in education, innovation, and youth. He also thanked Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and members of the government for supporting the project.

TEPAK Rector Panayiotis Zaphiris stated that the university is expanding its presence throughout Cyprus. At full capacity, the new school will be able to accommodate around 500 students and faculty members. Its structure will include two academic departments — Marine Sciences and Technology, and Sustainable Development.

The tender for the construction of the building is expected to be announced within the next month, and the school will be able to welcome its first students in the fall of 2028.

There are also plans to build student dormitories near the center of Larnaca. The project will be implemented with the support of the Nikos and Despina Pattichi Foundation.
