Water situation in Paphos improving, but restrictions remain

The water supply situation in the Paphos region has significantly improved, according to Charalambos Pittokopitis, head of the local water board. He stated that current indicators allow for cautious optimism regarding expanded support for agriculture, although the need for water conservation remains relevant.
Key reservoirs are showing positive dynamics. The Mavrokolymbos reservoir is completely full, containing about two million cubic meters of water. The Asprokremmos reservoir has reached a filling level of approximately 40%, which is significantly higher than last year's figure of 24%.
Additional stability is provided to the system by desalination plants in the Kouklia and Potima areas, which are operating at full capacity. Kouklia produces about 20,000 cubic meters of water daily, while Potima produces about 12,000. The Asprokremmos water treatment plant has also been modernized and is now capable of supplying up to 42,000 cubic meters of water per day.
These measures allow authorities to be more flexible in resource allocation and to consider increasing water volumes for farmers compared to last year. However, a complete lifting of irrigation restrictions is not yet planned.
Pittokopitis emphasized that even with the improved situation, water remains a limited resource, and urged citizens to avoid excessive consumption and waste.
