Russian Athlete Representing Cyprus Achieves Historic Seventh Place at Paris Olympics
Elena Kulichenko, a Russian high jumper representing Cyprus, participated in the women's high jump final at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Clearing 1.95 meters on her third attempt, Kulichenko secured a seventh-place finish.
Kulichenko successfully cleared the initial height of 1.86 meters, followed by 1.91 meters on her second attempt, and finally 1.95 meters on her third. However, she was unable to surpass the 1.98-meter mark.
Despite this, the 22-year-old made history for Cypriot athletics by becoming the first athlete from the country to compete in an Olympic athletics final.
The gold medal in Paris was claimed by Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who cleared 2.00 meters on her first attempt. Silver went to Australia's Nicola Olyslagers, who also cleared 2.00 meters but only on her third attempt. Ukrainian athlete Iryna Herashchenko took bronze with a height of 1.95 meters.
The sole athlete representing the TRNC at the Olympics finished in 10th place in the final.
