42 Illegal Immigrants Detained in One Day in Cyprus

Police operations against illegal immigration continue across Cyprus. Yesterday, 42 individuals of various nationalities were found to be living illegally on the island. Nine of them have already been deported from Larnaca Airport.

According to the police press office, the operation began at 5:00 AM the previous day and ended by noon. It involved officers from the Foreigners and Immigration Service (YAM), as well as personnel from the Green Line Surveillance and Migration Control Department.

 

The remaining 33 individuals are undergoing procedures for immediate repatriation, in cooperation with other relevant authorities. In addition to the nine individuals already deported, plans are in place for the deportation of another ten.

Since the start of the year, a total of 9,690 people living illegally in Cyprus have been deported. In comparison, 9,375 people were repatriated during the same period last year.

Additionally, it is noted that the number of illegal arrivals from third countries has decreased by 45% this year. A total of 6,057 people entered Cyprus illegally, compared to 10,949 in the same period of 2023.
