Yellow warning in Cyprus due to storm “Adel”
The Meteorological Service has issued a yellow warning in Cyprus due to storm “Adel”, valid from 23:00 on Saturday, 29 November, until 17:00 on Sunday, 30 November.
According to the warning, isolated strong thunderstorms are expected in some areas — initially in the western and northern parts of the island, and later, as the system moves, in other regions as well. Hail may occur in some storms. The wind will shift direction and strengthen.
The rainfall intensity during downpours may reach approximately 35–55 millimetres per hour. Heavy rain and strong winds increase the risk of flooding, displaced objects and damage in coastal and low-lying areas.
Civil Defence has issued self-protection guidelines: check and clear drains and gutters, prepare sandbags if necessary, remove valuable items from basements, and secure objects in yards. In case of worsening weather, people are advised to limit movement, avoid staying in basements and not to cross flooded roads.
In case of flooding, it is recommended to move to elevated safe areas, avoid contact with live wires and wait for confirmation of safety from the authorities before starting recovery work.
