Northern Cyprus Prepares to Celebrate the Night of Power
Tomorrow, Muslims around the world will observe the Night of Power, which this year coincides with the 27th night of Ramadan. The Quran describes this night as "better than a thousand months."
In Islam, the Night of Power marks the moment when the Quran was first revealed, and it is considered a "blessed night when the gates of heaven are opened, and prayers and repentance are accepted." It is also the only night specifically mentioned in the Holy Quran.
According to Islamic tradition, on this night, the angel Jibril appeared to the Prophet Muhammad and revealed the first five verses of Surah Al-Alaq. The Night of Power is celebrated during the last ten days of Ramadan, typically on one of the odd-numbered nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th). The 27th night of Ramadan is widely regarded as the Night of Power.
It is customary for Muslims to read the Quran and offer prayers during this night. In 2025, the first day of Ramadan fell on February 28, and the final day will be March 29. The faithful observed suhoor (pre-dawn meal) on the night of February 28 into March 1, followed by the first iftar (meal to break the fast) on the same day. The Night of Power will be celebrated on March 26. The day after the fast ends, Sunday, March 30, Muslims around the world will celebrate Oruza Bayram (Eid al-Fitr) — the festival marking the end of Ramadan.
In preparation for the holy month, butchers and dairy producers in Northern Cyprus have decided to reduce the prices of their products. After the Milk Producers Association (SÜİB) announced a 10% price cut on milk and dairy products, the Butchers Association followed suit with a similar price reduction.
