University Search and Rescue Games to Take Place in Northern Cyprus
From April 24 to 28, Northern Cyprus will host the University Search and Rescue Games 2025, bringing together teams from 13 universities in the TRNC and 3 universities from Turkey.
The event, known as USARGames 2025, is organized in cooperation with university students who are members of search and rescue clubs affiliated with the International University Search and Rescue Council (IUSARC).
Coordinated by the Civil Defense Organization (SSTB), the games will be held at the Civil Defense Headquarters training ground in Metehan, Nicosia.
The official opening ceremony will take place on April 24, between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM, with the participation of teams from all 16 universities. Throughout the games, students will carry out simulated disaster response scenarios, putting their search and rescue skills to the test.
The purpose of the games is to train participants to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of natural disasters or emergencies — ensuring they can reach victims as quickly as possible, provide aid under optimal conditions, carry out safe and coordinated search and rescue missions, and help minimize loss of life.
The games will conclude on Monday, April 28, with a closing and awards ceremony from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Civil Defense pavilion.
The main goal of the games is to reach disaster victims as quickly as possible and carry out rescue operations under safe and effective conditions.
