Christmas in Northern Cyprus
Updated: 5 months ago
Northern Cyprus is a Muslim country, and Christmas is not traditionally celebrated here. However, the local inhabitants have a friendly attitude towards the religious traditions of other nations. On Catholic Christmas, December 25, the president of the country congratulates foreigners living on the island.
Many Russian-speaking locals celebrate two Christmases - Catholic and Orthodox. The Catholic one with the British and representatives of other denominations and their own on January 7. On January 6, festive services are held in the Orthodox churches of Northern Cyprus, and Russian-speaking expats on the island organize parties with Russian music to mark this day, almost like at home.
