Two brothers handed over by the British Bases in an attempted murder case in Limassol
Two wanted brothers have been handed over by the British Bases to the Cypriot authorities on suspicion of involvement in the attempted murder of a 36-year-old Syrian man on Anexartisias Street in Limassol. The incident involving the victim occurred on Saturday, 20 December, a source reports.
According to law enforcement authorities, the suspects, Lebanese nationals, were located by British Bases units during a routine maritime patrol operation — a boat with two individuals on board was spotted. When an attempt was made to inspect it, the boat increased speed and tried to flee, prompting a chase.
The Larnaca Coastal Police were also involved in the arrest operation. Following coordinated actions, the suspects were stopped and arrested. They are expected to be questioned and then, on Wednesday, to appear before the Limassol District Court with a request for their remand in custody. The investigation notes that the father of one of the detainees is also among those sought, allegedly having assisted them after the attack.
According to police, the attackers acted as a group: first, the victim was struck with electroshock devices, after which one of the attackers allegedly wounded him with a sharp object in the area of the left shoulder blade. The victim was taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Limassol, where his condition was deemed critical and he was placed in the intensive care unit.
