Cyprus Health Ministry Calls for Comprehensive Approach to Combat Diabetes
The Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, Neophytos Charalambides, emphasized the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to fighting diabetes, calling the disease one of the most serious and growing public health challenges both globally and in Cyprus.
Speaking at the 10th Pancyprian Diabetological Congress, the Minister noted that key areas of the updated National Diabetes Strategy include strengthening prevention programs and early diagnosis, improving patient management and monitoring, systematic training for healthcare professionals, and supporting self-management and active patient participation in treatment.
According to Charalambides, the Ministry of Health has already updated the strategy to reflect modern scientific data and the actual needs of the population.
The Minister described the congress as an "authoritative scientific platform" bringing together leading specialists and researchers to exchange knowledge and promote new approaches to diabetes treatment.
He stressed that the disease is multifaceted, impacting not only the patient but also their family and the healthcare system as a whole.
In conclusion, the head of the Health Ministry noted that contemporary challenges require the implementation of evidence-based, multi-level policies with an emphasis on prevention, early detection, high-quality medical care, and empowering patients to manage their condition independently.
