In Cyprus, a new vaccine against Covid-19 has been introduced
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus announced the implementation of the new Novavax Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccine will be administered to individuals aged 18 and older.
The Nuvaxovid BBB.1.5 vaccine is a protein-based vaccine. Unlike the mRNA vaccines Moderna and Pfizer, it is based on a more traditional approach, more similar to the hepatitis B vaccine.
According to Scientific American magazine, a study conducted in October of this year showed that revaccination with Novavax is approximately 55% effective in preventing Covid symptoms and 31% effective in preventing the infection itself, which is comparable to the efficacy of mRNA vaccines.
The Ministry of Health stated that the new vaccine can be administered as part of the primary vaccination course or as a revaccination. The vaccine is recommended for individuals aged 18 and older who have completed the primary course, consisting of an mRNA vaccine or an adenovirus vector vaccine, such as AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson.
Vaccination with the new vaccine is carried out at vaccination centers in all districts, but only by appointment.
To schedule an appointment, you need to call the following phone numbers:

For those who have been previously vaccinated, the new vaccination can be administered five months after the last dose. After a positive Covid test result, a minimum three-month interval is required.
In vaccination centers, you can also receive a flu shot on the same day.
According to the latest data in the EU health report, only 27% of people aged 60 and older in Cyprus have requested a third revaccination, which was introduced last year.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Covid-19 cases increased in Cyprus ahead of the holidays.
