American Military Ship Docks at Limassol Port
An American military ship has arrived at Limassol port for a routine port inspection.
According to a statement from the U.S. Fleet Command, the visit is being made by the amphibious ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) from the Special Operations Command (SOC).
During its time in port, the USS Wasp and its crew will conduct a standard port inspection and participate in a community relations event in collaboration with the Agios Stefanou Foundation.
Captain Christopher Persell of the USS Wasp said that the American sailors and Marines "are eager to experience Cypriot culture, explore the area, enjoy local cuisine, and engage in volunteer activities."
He added that such port visits help strengthen ties with partner nations and build on shared values and experiences.
It is also noted that the Republic of Cyprus is a frequent stop for U.S. Navy ships operating in the Mediterranean.
