TRNC restaurateurs demand solution to meat problem

The TRNC Restaurant Owners Association (Res-Bir) has called for an urgent resolution to the situation in the meat market. The organization demands either the provision of affordable and high-quality meat within the country or the removal of restrictions on importing products from the Republic of Cyprus.
In a written statement, the association noted that the crisis in the industry continues to deepen. According to Res-Bir representatives, long-standing disagreements between livestock farmers, butchers, trade unions, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources have still not led to a solution.
The organization recalled that authorities had previously promised to create a cooperative and establish the sale of cheap and high-quality meat. However, as restaurateurs claim, these promises have not been fulfilled: the supply system is still not working, and prices remain high.
The association also pointed out that many residents prefer to buy meat in the south, where products are cheaper. According to industry representatives, this situation harms local business and puts restaurant and shop owners in a difficult financial position.
Res-Bir emphasized that entrepreneurs are trying to keep their establishments afloat despite rising costs and market instability. The association urged the authorities to take concrete measures as soon as possible to stabilize the situation and support business.
